Called \u201cWalls of death,\u201d only one in eight animals caught are actually swordfish.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>Media such as\u00a0<em>The Washington Post<\/em>,\u00a0<em>San Francisco Chronicle<\/em>,\u00a0<em>ABC Eyewitness News<\/em>\u00a0and others are reporting on it. WARNING! It contains some gruesome images.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<div class='embed-container'>\n<iframe width='480' height='290' scrolling='no' src='https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/video\/c\/embed\/1b1b42b6-3db3-11e8-955b-7d2e19b79966' frameborder='0' webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><em>Sharkwater<\/em>\u00a0filmmaker Rob Stewart and his\u00a0<em>Sharkwater<\/em>\u00a0Team inspired the investigation as far back as October 2016.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>The initiative to persuade the Pacific Fishery Management Council to phase out the deadly nets, which can run a mile long and as deep as 100 feet, was announced\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_742327305\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Tuesday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0by several conservation groups: Team Sharkwater, Mercy for Animals, SeaLegacy and the Turtle Island Restoration Network.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>Stewart, who believed that \u201cTogether, we can make a difference,\u201d and the\u00a0<em>Sharkwater<\/em>\u00a0team, helped bring the groups together to fight this common goal. Rob believed once people knew the issues, they could make better choices. Driftnet fishing has been banned by the UN and by all other U.S. states.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p>Cassie Burdyshaw of the Turtle Island group said, \u201cLess harmful fishing methods have existed for years.
