The results paint a clearer picture of West Antarctica\u2019s future than was previously possible. The study has been published in\u00a0The Cryosphere, an open access journal of the European Geosciences Union\u00a0(EGU).\u201cThe IPCC\u2019s [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] 4th\u00a0and 5th\u00a0Assessment Reports both note that the acceleration of West Antarctic ice streams in response to ocean warming could result in a major contribution to sea-level rise, but that models were unable to satisfactorily quantify that response,\u201d says Stephen Cornford, a research assistant at the University of Bristol, UK and lead-author of the study.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/EnvironmentalNewsNetwork\/~4\/60w6nWdM4xo\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":0,"featured_media":0,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"class_list":["post-855617","news","type-news","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.0 -
